Prayer to Break the Spirit of Divination 1
Concept of the Spirit of Divination:
This spirit operates when a person interacts or fellowships with demons—seeking answers from them and being influenced or compelled by them. The target or source of this connection is the spirit of divination. This spirit operates when a person interacts or fellowships with demons—seeking answers from them and being influenced or compelled by them. The target or source of this connection is the spirit of divination.
The King James Version (KJV) translates this spirit as "familiar spirits":
"Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God." (Leviticus 19:31, KJV)
Paul cast out a spirit of divination from a slave girl in Philippi, a spirit that had enabled her to bring great profit to her masters through fortune-telling. (Acts 16:16)
People often seek to profit from the spirit of divination, but in the end, this spirit leads them down to destruction and hell.
Manifestations and Causes of the Spirit of Divination:
Fortune-telling involves predicting a person’s future based on their birth date and time (commonly referred to as “Bazi” or Eight Characters), to determine upcoming blessings or calamities.
Divination uses tools or methods—such as tortoise shells, coins, bamboo sticks, tarot cards, or astrology—to interpret signs and omens in order to reveal one’s fate and offer guidance.
Consulting the dead (necromancy) is based on the belief that people become “spirits” after death, and through mediums or spiritists, these spirits are supposedly called upon to speak through the living, answering questions about the unknown.
Causes and Essence:
1.Desire to Know the Future
Whether it’s fortune-telling, divination, or consulting the dead, they all share a common motivation: the desire to know the future in order to pursue blessings and avoid calamities. The essence of these practices is that the devil uses them to replace God’s rightful position in a person’s life. However...
Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god.( Psalm 16:4)
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:2)
And in Your book they all were written,The days fashioned for me,When as yet there were none of them. (Psalm 139:16)
God already knows all our days and everything we will face. He is sovereign over all things. Therefore, we have no need to seek guidance from evil spirits through fortune-telling, divination, or consulting the dead.
- Rebellion Against God
Practices such as fortune-telling, divination, and consulting the dead are acts of open rebellion against God. The first and second of the Ten Commandments clearly state: “You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image.”
Behind fortune-telling, divination, and necromancy are demonic forces. The devil’s very name means “the adversary”—he is the one who resists and opposes God.
In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, (Ephesians 2:2)
Behind these practices is a ruler of the kingdom of the air, the evil spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
The goal of these evil spirits is to draw people into believing in them, and ultimately into worshiping them. Some of us in the past were once under the influence of such spirits—living in ignorance and spiritual blindness. At that time, God overlooked our lack of understanding. But now that we have been redeemed by Christ, we must decisively break off and remove all practices and influences that oppose God.
3. Uncertainty About the Future
As human knowledge and abilities increase, so does the level of competition in the world. At the same time, uncertainty has grown, and people increasingly feel a lack of security.
Many feel it is harder than ever to encounter opportunities, to seize them when they arise, or to handle the challenges of life and destiny. As a result, people often turn to spiritual shortcuts—seeking comfort and emotional relief, hoping to change their fate or escape the setbacks and failures they face in life.
4. Inner Emptiness of the Soul
While material civilization advances rapidly in modern times, the human spirit remains impoverished. The abundance of outward material wealth contrasts sharply with the inner emptiness of the soul, creating a deep gap. As a result, people instinctively yearn for the mysterious spiritual realm, seeking fulfillment and meaning.
5. A Mindset of Quick Gains
The desire for quick success and immediate results gives rise to a strong fear of gain and loss. This mindset easily drives people to turn to fortune-telling, divination, and consulting the dead.
