Prayer to Break the Spirit of Hatred 2
Causes of hatred:
To break the control and bondage of the "spirit of hatred", we must understand the causes of the "curse of hatred", remove the gaps, and do well to practice the laws and regulations of God who loves us, protects us, and takes our interests into consideration. According to the teachings of the Bible, the following points are initially summarized:
- Failure to properly handle offenses.
A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city,And contentions are like the bars of a castle. (Proverbs 18:19)
Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! (Matthew 18:7)
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me. (Matthew 11:6)
I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. (John 8:37)
- Bitterness and unforgiveness.
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. (1 John 3:15)
For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. (James 3:2)
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. (Ephesians 4:31)
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;Do not fret—it only causes harm. (Psalm 37:8)
- Jealousy.
But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. (James 3:14)
Do not fret because of evildoers,Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity (Psalm 37:1)
For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. (James 3:16)
A sound heart is life to the body,But envy is rottenness to the bones. (Proverbs 14:30)
- Competition and comparison.
By pride comes nothing but strife,But with the well-advised is wisdom.(Proverbs 13:10)
Casting lots causes contentions to cease,And keeps the mighty apart. (Proverbs 18:18)
But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. (Titus 3:9)
The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts. (Proverbs 17:14)
- Greed stirs up quarrels.
And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” Then he went up from there to Beersheba. And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham’s sake.” So he built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord, and he pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well. Then Abimelech came to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath, one of his friends, and Phichol the commander of his army. And Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me and have sent me away from you?” But they said, “We have certainly seen that the Lord is with you. So we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, between you and us; and let us make a covenant with you, (Genesis 26:22-28)
- Jealousy and contention.
But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. (Genesis 37:4)
And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words. (Genesis 37:8)
- Anger.
“Simeon and Levi are brothers;Instruments of cruelty are in their dwelling place. Let not my soul enter their council;Let not my honor be united to their assembly; For in their anger they slew a man,And in their self-will they hamstrung an ox.7 Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel!I will divide them in Jacob And scatter them in Israel. (Genesis 49:5-7)
- Pride.
Gilead’s wife bore sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out, and said to him, “You shall have no inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.” Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of Tob; and worthless men banded together with Jephthah and went out raiding with him.It came to pass after a time that the people of Ammon made war against Israel. And so it was, when the people of Ammon made war against Israel, that the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob. Then they said to Jephthah, “Come and be our commander, that we may fight against the people of Ammon.” So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Did you not hate me, and expel me from my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?” (Judges 11:2-7)
- Hatred caused by lust.
However, he would not heed her voice; and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her. Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Arise, be gone!”(2 Samuel 13:14-15)
- Being offended, not being in accordance with one's own will.
So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!” (1 Kings 22:8)
- One or a loved one is treated unjustly.
So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.” (Genesis 27:41)
And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved and very angry, because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing which ought not to be done. (Genesis 34:7)
